The Green Gift Graduate Awards Program is the flagship initiative of The Green Gift, created to support emerging scholars whose work strengthens communities, protects natural resources, and advances innovation in environmental science and related fields.

Launched in 2025, the program reflects The Green Gift’s mission to cultivate the next generation of researchers, leaders, and problem-solvers who will shape a sustainable and prosperous future.

Program Purpose

The Graduate Research Awards are designed to:

  • Support advanced scientific research in environmental STEM fields

  • Reduce financial barriers for graduate students conducting quality research

  • Encourage community-engaged scholarship that connects science to real-world impact

  • Position young scholars for success in academia, industry, and public service

  • Build visibility for local research happening across Alabama and beyond

We believe that investing in early-career researchers creates long-term benefits for communities, the environment, and the national scientific landscape.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or Ph.D.) .

  • Be pursuing or plan to pursue a graduate degree in one of the following fields: environmental science, sustainability, conservation, climate, ecology, agriculture, engineering, STEM education, or community- focused environmental work.

  • Physically plan to attend an accredited, degree-granting institution in the state of Alabama during the Fall semester of 2025.

  • Demonstrate academic merit, leadership potential, and commitment to community impact.

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

  • Be a citizen or national of the United States.

  • Submit a complete application.
